Making a vision board is a fun and creative way of visualising your goals. It’s something you can refer back to when you start to lose motivation or question what you’re trying to achieve and why. Many people create vision boards as a means to stay motivated and manifest what they want to achieve in life. It can be for anything, from following career goals to achieving fitness goals or deepening spirituality. So why not create a vision board to help you on your journey of reconnecting with nature?

The best way to create a vision board is to physically make one that you can hang up in your home. This way, you can refer to it often for motivation. You can also create a vision board digitally using Pinterest or a publishing or design software of your choice. However you choose to make your vision board is entirely up to you. Just remember that you’ll want to refer to it often, so even if you create it digitally you might benefit from printing it out and sticking it up on a wall or on your fridge.

Having created many vision boards in the past in the form of cork pin boards and scrapbooks, I’m no stranger to the idea. And so, I’ve compiled some handy tips to help you get started with yours.

Let’s make a ‘reconnect with nature’ vision board!

You can create a vision board about anything you want, but since the main aim of this blog is to encourage others to reconnect with the natural world, this post focuses on creating a vision board around that.

If you’re not sure where to start, I’ve also put together a handy post, listing 15 great ways that you can rekindle your connection with nature. Click here to read more.

Let’s get started.

STEP 1
First things first, set yourself some goals. You’ve probably heard of SMART goals before. If not, no worries! I’ve listed them out below.

S is for Specific: Don’t be vague with your goals. Instead of simply writing ‘I want to reconnect with nature’, go into more detail. There are lots of specific ways we can reconnect with nature. You could go for walks to observe nature in your local park more often, or you could walk barefoot in the park or at the beach. You could eat more seasonal produce, or grow your own vegetables. Think about the areas where you feel disconnected and write down some goals to help you reconnect in those areas. Eating a wholefoods plant based diet is a great way to reconnect with nature through eating delicious nutritious meals. Perhaps there is a plant based recipe you want to try? Whatever your goals are, write them down and add them to the board.

M is for Measurable: How will you measure your achievements? If one of your goals is to go for more walks in nature, perhaps set yourself a measurable goal to visit 5 new places of natural beauty that you haven’t been before. You could add images of national parks you want to go to and cross them off as you visit them. Or include a map of the UK and pin places as you visit them.

A is for Attainable: Your goals must be realistic and possible to achieve. Perhaps don’t set yourself a goal to visit all 7 natural wonders of the world in a year during a pandemic for example!

R is for Relevant: Why is this important to you? How will reconnecting with nature benefit you? Perhaps you suffer from depression and/or anxiety and find nature relieves your symptoms. Write down why this is relevant. Do you want to feel happier? Do you want to learn more about your local environment?

T is for Timely: Set timeframes for when you want to achieve your goals by. Perhaps you want to have made some delicious tomato chutney from your home grown tomatoes by autumn this year so you can give jars as gifts to friends and family at Christmas? Perhaps you want to want to lose 10 pounds in time for your holiday by eating a plant based diet?

STEP 2
Now you’re ready to start creating your vision board – You’ll want to find yourself a base for your board. You probably want to aim for no smaller than A3 size. This should give you enough space to fill it up with lots of lovely motivational quotes and images. I would recommend using a cork board that you can stick and pin things to or a simple piece of A3 card or even a canvas if you fancy getting the paints out! Alternatively set up an A3 page on your computer or set up a new Pinterest board.

STEP 3
If you’re creating this physically, form a pile of items that you can get creative with. This can be any of the following; Old magazines and/or newspapers, printed images, inspirational words and quotes, photos and stickers. You’ll also need glue, scissors, sellotape, marker pens, paints, pins etc. Now you’re ready to get creative! If you’re creating this digitally in Pinterest, simply go ahead and pin away. If you’re creating this as a document, you’ll want to first compile all your images etc into a folder on your computer.

STEP 4
Cut out any images and snippets from the magazines and/or newspapers that resonate well with your goals. Then before you start sticking and pinning things down, first lay them out across your board to arrange them in an order you like. This will help you design your layout so you can fit everything in. You could take a photo of this arrangement to refer to as you start sticking and pinning if it’s useful. If you’re creating this digitally, go ahead and arrange your images however you like! You’ll have the flexibility to move things around more freely without worrying about glue!

STEP 5
When you’re done, hang it up in a place where you can refer to it often. If you’ve created it digitally, print a copy to stick up in your home.

Take as long as you like to create your vision board. I personally love to play relaxing ambient electronic music to help me get in the zone. It should be a fun and enjoyable experience, so set the mood however you like and get creative!

I hope you enjoy creating your vision board and find it helpful and motivating. I would also love to see what you create. Share your vision boards on Instagram, tagging @Telluriantreasures and I’ll share as many as I can to my story.

Here’s to following dreams, achieving goals and living healthy, happy, fulfilling lives!

Have a beautiful day.
