I was introduced to the Revels family through one of my best friends in 2017. Weβve become good friends ever since and Iβm truly grateful for their friendship.
Meon Shore Crafts and Design is a lovely little family business and the brainchild of daughters Katherine and Alexa and mum Suzanne. Together they have an Etsy shop selling their beautiful handmade creations.
I love to support fellow creatives, and so I reached out to them for my Friends of Tellurian Treasures interview series. I asked them some questions about creativity, some questions are βjust for funβ and below you can find their answers.
Iβve also shared some links at the bottom of this post to their Etsy Shop and their social media pages for you to find out more about them and their creations.
β‘ Please show them some support and give them a follow! β‘

1) Where did the idea for Meon Shore Crafts and Design come from? What do you make?
Katherine: Mum and I often spoke about doing more arty things as we find it really relaxing and love to create something we can gift on to family and friends. We decided to start up ‘Crafting Wine Wednesdays’ during lockdown 2020 (basically an excuse to drink wine during the week) and experimented with all different types of crafts (tea bag art, embroidery, soap, candles, drift wood crafts, mobiles, origami, paper cutting). Alexa also loves crafting and found cacti painting to be super fun, so we pulled it all together and decided to start Meon Shore Crafts & Design. We live near Meon in South Hampshire and love visiting there. We currently sell rock cacti, which Alexa paints, however we have candles and soap ingredients prepared and are always making more cards.
Alexa: It was Kath and Mum’s idea that started with ‘Crafting Wine Wednesdays’. I create rock cacti – intricately painted rocks in the shape of cacti, complete with flowers and planted in pots! It combines my love of cacti, graphic design and art.
Suzanne: Meon Shore orignally came from when I was making soap and selling it at small craft fares. It’s a local coastal area, which I really enjoy visiting – I love being by the sea. I’m looking to start making cards, soap and candles soon (I have all the soap/candle ingredients ready).
2) Where do you each find your inspiration?
Katherine: I love plants and watching them grow over time, they make me so relaxed. I love crafts that involve flowers or plants too and researching different nature inspired crafts.
Alexa: I like looking at cacti in detail and trying to paint as close to what they look like in real life so they look like real cacti on the windowsill.
Suzanne: I find travel and different cultures very inspirational to my crafts.
[Creativity] makes me feel happy. Looking at something that I think is beautiful and creative brings me a lot of pleasure.

3) Do you have a favourite creation that you’re particularly proud of?
Katherine: I have a ceramic bowl that I painted with vegetables on it which I’m super proud of.

Alexa: My small succulent – I haven’t put it up for sale as I love it too much.

Suzanne: A particular papercut, based on the German craft, I created for a friend, which took me hours and hours of detailed cutting.
4) How would you say creativity improves your life?
Katherine: For me it has a real calming effect. I get very stressed with work, uni, life and I need an outlet. Being outside and getting immersed in creativity are the best de-stressers for me.
Alexa: It helps me focus. I enjoy beginning something, seeing its progress, the results and being pleased with what I’ve made.
Suzanne: It makes me feel happy. Looking at something that I think is beautiful and creative brings me a lot of pleasure.
5) As a family business, do you each have different roles or do you all do a bit of everything?
Katherine: Can I call myself the MD? I look after our Etsy, Instagram, ordering supplies, painting cacti, candle pouring (a bit of everything for me!)
Alexa: Cacti queen!

Suzanne: Not the manager, that’s Kath. I craft myself happy.
6) Just for fun – If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose?
Katherine: I’m not sure I could say one place, I like to move around and love the idea of exploring. But I’d love to live for a little while in Berlin or Australia. Other places in the UK too. The UK is so underrated and there’s so many beautiful spots.
Alexa: Anywhere hot with beautiful scenery.
Suzanne: Germany because I love the people, the culture and the food.

7) Do you have a favourite place in nature? If so, where?
Katherine: Iguazu Falls, on the border of Brazil and Argentina, is incredible. The huge sound and power of the falls and the multiple rainbows from the mist is something I will never forget.
Alexa: I’m happiest near the sea. Cornwall is my happy place.
Suzanne: By the sea, or any water. I find it very relaxing – the sound of water, the expansiveness of water. A stream, a lake, or the vast sea.
8) You have to eat one type of food for the rest of your life, what would you choose?
Katherine: Vegetables. Gimme all the veg. So versatile and yum.
Alexa: Pasta forever!! I was called the pasta queen as a child. My family still call me it now sometimes.
Suzanne: Fruit.
9) What are some of your other passions and hobbies?
Katherine: Lockdown gave me time to learn to love gardening. I love being outside generally – cycling, walking, being by the sea; but equally I love to cosy up and a great Netflix series too. Lex and I are currently obsessed with Married at First Sight Australia.
Alexa: I like running, socialising, walking my dog Hudson, watching a good series on Netflix. I love animals, especially guinea pigs – we are getting some piggies soon.
Suzanne: My dog. Being with my family and friends. Visiting gardens – I really love that.
10) What would you say brings you the most joy?
Katherine: Of course being with my friends and family; travelling; looking after my plants.
Alexa: Exploring new places, laughing with my family and friends.
Suzanne: My family.
